Join us for the
2008 Filipino American
National Historical Society Conference

July 3 to 5, 2008
Hilton Anchorage
500 West Third Ave
Anchorage, Alaska 99501

Highlights

  • Located in the heart of downtown with easy access to Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, Alaska Railroad Station, Alaka Center for Performing Arts Center and a variety of restaurants and mall.
  • The hotel is a few blocks from the mouth of Ship Creek where you can catch yourself a king salmon and savor the memory of the Emard Cannery where Alaskeros (Filipino fishermen) worked from 1920 to 1940s.  By the time any family settled in Achorage in 1965, what was left of the Emard were rotted walls and pillings.  Today, the Alaska Railroad has tracks near where Emard used to be.
  • Aside from the conference plenary sessions, workshops and receptions, the organizers are planning pre and post activities inlcuding a visit to the Mount Alyeska Ski Resort, which has over 100 feet of snow in the winter.  We'll take a ski lift to the top of the mountain and perhaps have lunch there and enjoy the view.
  • They're also planning a boat ride to see Portage Glacier.
